Breast Augmentation Perth

Why have a breast augmentation?

If you are considering a breast augmentation, it is important to discuss with your cosmetic surgeon what you are hoping to gain from the surgery, as well as the results that can be expected.

Remember, changing the size and shape of your breasts alone will not change you. Dr Goldman will discuss your goals and the procedure in depth before you choose to proceed.

ASYMMETRY

Breast asymmetry is incredibly common and natural. If you wish to change the shape or size of your breasts, talk to Dr Goldman about a breast augmentation procedure. Breast implants are designed to create asymmetry or can be used to create natural breast asymmetry following a mastectomy.

POST WEIGHT LOSS

It's common to experience reduced breast size and excess skin after significant weight loss. Some women choose to undergo a breast augmentation. To understand what options are available, talk to Dr Goldman.

BREAST IMPLANTS PERTH

There are several things to consider before you decide to have a breast augmentation. All women’s breasts are different. We all come in different shapes and sizes; all these aspects need to be taken into consideration. Implants also come in various shapes and sizes and expectations and preferences will differ widely amongst women who want to undergo breast enhancements.

It’s also important to know the difference between enhancement and breast reconstruction. Often, Perth surgeons prefer to do reconstructions on their own work rather than agree to rectify issues on patients, especially if they’ve had their procedures done abroad.

It is essential to have the right information and to be guided through the process by a Specialist Surgeon.

NATURAL LOOKING BREASTS

For the most natural look, Dr Goldman uses Cohesive Silicone Gel Breast Implants. These implants are now widely used across Australia and the rest of the world. Health authorities have determined that cohesive silicone gel implants are safe for use because the cohesive gel does not seep, run or shift. If it ruptures, the implant itself maintains its shape and integrity.

Silicone gel breast implants give a more natural appearance than saline breast implants. They feel and move like real breast tissue. They have been designed to increase cleavage and breast size without producing an undesirable and unnatural upper breast fullness. There is a range of implants with respect to height, projection and base width, each having a variety of sizes.

Here’s what you need to consider when it comes to your breast implants:

The placement of silicone breast implants will affect how your breast implants look and feel, as well as the safety and risks of breast augmentation. Dr Goldman does not perform submuscular breast augmentations, as this type of procedure involves more safety risks, a less natural looking result, and increased re-operation rate.

Dr Goldman only places implants over the pectoral muscles, so you can have the safest procedure and best-looking results.

There have been many advances in the materials used for breast implants since breast implant surgery was first introduced. As discussed above, Dr Goldman uses high-quality Cohesive Silicone Gel breast implants by Motiva.

This medical grade material is licensed and considered safe by the Therapeutic Goods Administration and is used in Australia and worldwide.

During your consultation, Dr Goldman will listen to your desires and discuss which size and shape implants will be best suited for you. The final decision will be based on your current measurements, desired end results and lifestyle.

Dr Goldman uses techniques and materials to help you get the most natural looking results. Your breast implant surgery will be performed so that the implant is placed to move and behave exactly as the breast does.

During the initial consultation with Dr Goldman, he will guide you through each step and provide you with extensive take-home reading material to assist you in the decision-making process.

Consultation

At the consultation with Dr Goldman, it will help if you have an expectation of the result that you are looking for. Although Dr Goldman is happy to discuss photos of women who have had breast augmentations, it’s important to remember that all bodies are different and what works for some women may not be realistic for others. Dr Goldman will discuss this at the consultation.

Choosing the right size and shape of breast implants is a partnership between you and the cosmetic surgeon; there are a number of important steps that you will go through during the consultation to determine the best breast size for you. These steps include detailed measurements of your chest and breasts, reviewing a series of before and after photographs of patients, and viewing the complete range of Breast Implants in their various shapes and sizes.

The procedure will take no longer than 3 hours and the patient will be under anesthesia for the duration of the surgery. The incisions that will be made on your breasts will be discussed with you during your initial consultation.

Aftercare

Throughout the complete process, from your initial consultation, right through to aftercare, Dr. Goldman and his staff are committed to ensuring you achieve the desired results from your cosmetic surgery by offering you the highest level of professional care and ongoing support.

All patients receive Dr. Goldman’s number for queries or concerns after the surgery and are entitled to as many reviews as necessary.

After the procedure: You will be able to go home after the procedure and will need to ensure that you have someone to take you home after your surgery. Your breasts will likely feel uncomfortable for the first few days so a relaxing first 2 days post-surgery is advised.

1 week after operation: Breasts will still feel slightly uncomfortable and sore which can be rectified with pain medication prescribed by Dr Goldman.

Scarring will become visible and you will be advised to wear a surgical bra with adjustable straps.
We recommend taking a week off work, especially if your work involves upper body movement.
Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercises. Light exercises like walking and activities around the house are permitted.

2 weeks after operation: Two weeks after your surgery you’ll have your first review with Dr Goldman. He will assess the healing process, scarring and the overall results of the procedure and will discuss any concerns you may have.

6 weeks after operation: You will begin to see a visible reduction in scars from 4 weeks post operation onwards. There will be a formal review for you to discuss any concerns and for Dr. Goldman to ensure that the healing process is well and truly underway.

12 weeks after operation: The 12-month review should indicate whether the patient is ready to resume physical activities as before.  It is advised that the patient refrains from strenuous exercise unless specified by the Doctor.

There is a total of 5 formal reviews that will take place in the span of 12 months post-surgery. After the first year, the patient will have 1 formal review every year to ensure good breast health.  The patient is entitled to as many reviews as required.

Surgery Risks

Breast Augmentation is a relatively straightforward procedure but as with any operation, there are risks associated with surgery and complications specific to this procedure.

A well known and publicised problem is capsular contracture. When a breast implant is inserted, a scar capsule forms around it as part of the natural healing process. In 2% to 5% of cases, the capsule may sometimes tighten and compress the breast implant, causing the breast to feel firmer than normal. Capsular contracture can occur to varying degrees. If it is severe, it can cause discomfort or changes in the breast’s appearance. In such cases, more surgery may be needed to modify or remove the scar tissue, or perhaps remove or replace the breast implant. Dr Goldman has a number of methods to minimize capsular contracture and he will explain this to you during your consultation.

Why choose a Specialist Surgeon?

While breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure, it is still surgery and should be undertaken by a specialist surgeon. So, what does it mean to be a specialist surgeon?

One of the first indications that you’re dealing with a specialist cosmetic surgeon is the accreditation after their name. In Australia, the term FRACS means Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. This distinction is only awarded to specialist surgeons who have undertaken a minimum of 12 years medical and surgical education. This title also indicates that your surgeon is Commonwealth Government accredited. What does all this mean for you?

The benefits of dealing with a specialist surgeon include:

  • Can include the use of Private Health Cover
  • Long-term care program, including breast cancer checks
  • Holistic approach to your surgery and after care
  • Exclusive access to an experienced and highly qualified surgeon (AHPRA ID MED0000978565)

Frequently Asked Questions

Breast enlargement with silicone implants is a surgical procedure that can have immediate results with positive feedback. It’s ideal for those with little fat deposits and allows the surgeon more freedom to control the end result of the procedure.

Silicone implants also look and feel more like natural breasts, whereas saline implants are less forgiving and more likely to ripple or fold unnaturally. If the implants pop or rupture, silicone implants maintain their structure, while saline implants are made of liquid and therefore, leak.

Incisions made during the surgery can deter the patient from breastfeeding. Breast implant surgery can also damage the glands that help produce milk and the ducts that hold them. The surgery can also lead to a disconnect between the nipples and the glands. Please speak to your surgeon before the surgery if breastfeeding is in your future plans.

While the two terms are often used to describe the same thing, breast augmentation is the medical name of the procedure while breast implants are the products that are used in the augmentation process.

As detailed above, the cost of implants is broken down into the surgery fee, anaesthetist fee, hospital fee and the cost of the implants. The total cost will be discussed in your initial consultation. You can also find out whether you are eligible for any rebates through Medicare or your private health insurance.
