Breast Reduction Risks

Apart from discomfort and bruising following the cosmetic procedure, some loss of feeling may occur in the nipples and breast skin for a period of weeks.

In some patients it may last longer, and in very rare cases, it may be permanent. A small percentage of women experience sharp pains in the breast or nipple for up to six months. This is part of the healing process and will subside over time. Some Breast Reduction cosmetic surgery can result in the loss of nipple sensation and a reduction of milk supply as a consequence. Breast feeding may be unable to be established.

As with any cosmetic surgical procedure, although uncommon, excessive bleeding following cosmetic surgery may cause swelling and pain. Whilst the majority of women do not experience complications, you should discuss with your Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr Goldman any concerns you may have in this regard. At the consultation, Dr Goldman will provide you with a Breast Reduction Booklet which covers this area in detail.
