Cosmetic Breast Surgery remains one of the most sought after groups of operations with breast augmentation being the most common cosmetic procedure worldwide.
Essentially, there are 3 mainstream operations:
- Breast Augmentation (implants) also known as breast enhancement (the proper “medical name” is Augmentation Mammoplasty)
- Breast reduction (proper name: Reduction mammoplasty)
- Breast Lift (proper name: mastopexy)
In addition to these main cosmetic surgical procedures, breast liposculpture is possible as an alternative to breast reduction. Here, Dr Goldman uses there Vaser Ultrasound Assisted Liposculpture system as a specialist High Definition procedure. This avoids the significant external scarring and associated complications of the formal breast reduction procedure. It is only useful for those women who are after a modest reduction of no more than one bra cup size down.
The Vaser Liposculpture procedure is often combined with any of the other cosmetic breast surgical procedures depending on your individual requirements.
Currently in Australia, there is no option of performing a breast augmentation using any filler product. This is still in the evaluation phase in some countries but is not available in any form here.
Although Dr Goldman does perform fat transfer procedures (for example in the buttock), again, this is not classed as mainstream treatment for a breast augmentation and is currently not licensed for this treatment.
Dr Goldman performs a thorough breast evaluation both from a medical (breast lump) perspective as well as from the cosmetic and aesthetic perspective. This consultation usually lasts for around 1 hour.
Overall, for many different reasons, about 25% or 1 in 4 women who undergo any of these cosmetic breast operations will require ongoing surgery and “surgical maintenance” over time. All of these issues will be discussed at the consultation.
