Virtually Painless

SHR is the only clinically proven method of laser hair removal that is virtually painless. The unique heating and energy delivery method effectively damages the hair follicle and prevents re-growth, while preventing injury to the surrounding tissue. At the same time, ICE™ tech cools the skin surface, preventing superficial burns and the sensation of pain.

Proven Safety Record

SHR has been proven in multiple clinical studies as the safest method of hair removal for all skin types, including dark skin whereby melanin is exponentially more sensitive to the heat used in the treatment.

Hair follicles are damaged not by a single pulse of high energy, but by repetitive short energy pulses. These pulses minimize the risk of burning to the skin, as it is the heat build-up which raises the temperature of the deeper skin layer to the level needed for preventing hair growth.

All Skin Types

Rather than exposing the hair follicle to a single high energy pulse which can cause trauma to dark pigmented skin, SHR gradually heats the skin until the required heat energy is delivered to the hair follicle. This makes SHR the safest advanced hair removal option, including for dark skinned patients.

Tanned Skin

SHR affects the melanin of the skin using a unique method, allowing the procedure to be performed anytime of the year as well as on tanned skin. Furthermore, sun exposure is less traumatic to the skin following SHR treatment.

Heat build-up

SHR works by gradually heating the deeper layers of the skin to a temperature that effectively damages the hair follicles and prevents re-growth, while avoiding injury to the surrounding tissue. A high repetition rate of short pulses are delivered deep into the skin layer, achieving high power and very effective heat build-up, with virtually no pain.

The sweeping In-Motion™ technique of moving the applicator repeatedly over the treatment area ensures full coverage while a propriety system cools the skin surface- preventing superficial burns and allowing for virtually pain-free, yet highly effective hair removal.

Pain Free, All Skin Types

The melanin in dark skin types is exponentially more sensitive to the heat in all forms of laser treatment. During SHR, hair follicles are damaged not by a single high energy pulse, but by repetitive application of low power pulses – removing the sensation of pain and not exposing the melanin to the same type of trauma as traditional hair removal lasers.

Furthermore, the individual pulses do not cause any burning to the skin, as it is the multiple pulses that raise the temperature of the dermis to the level needed to prevent hair growth. SHR technology further ensures that the temperature of the dermis rises above 42°C (for effective hair removal) but not above 50°C, which could cause pain, burns, and permanent skin discoloration.

What is IPL Treatment?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. This uses a broad spectrum or range of light to generate the energy required for the effects we use in the cosmetic industry.

The devices use filters to narrow this broad range of light down to become more effective at targeting the specific features that become undesirable as a result of both ageing and sun exposure, so called photoageing.

AFT is the next generation of intense pulsed light and is the light source in the Alma Laser’s Harmony XL platform that Dr Goldman uses. This more advanced system has additional and specific filters to further narrow down the light so that, in effect, it lies between traditional IPL and laser treatments.


The advanced filters increase the power and control for safer and more effective treatments. Utilising different wavelengths (different light characteristics) the Harmony XL can be used to treat the following:

  • Hair removal
  • Broken veins, spider veins and other facial vascular lesions
  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Undesirable skin pigmentation

In addition, the Harmony XL platform with the advanced handpieces have a specific trademarked technology that allows for the continuous movement of the treating handpiece, the so-called InMotionTM technique compared to the “point and shoot” technique.

This results in quicker and more comfortable as well as potentially, fewer treatments.
