BREAST IMPLANTS PERTH

There are several things to consider before a breast augmentation. All women’s breasts are different. We all come in different shapes and sizes and all these aspects need to be taken into consideration. Implants also come in various shapes and sizes and expectations and preferences will differ widely.

It’s also important to know the difference between breast procedures. Often, Perth surgeons prefer to do reconstructions on their own work rather than agree to rectify issues on patients, especially if they’ve had their procedures done abroad.

It is essential to have the right information and to be guided through the process by a Specialist Surgeon.

TYPES OF BREAST IMPLANTS

Dr Goldman uses Cohesive Silicone Gel Breast Implants. These implants are used across Australia and the rest of the world. Health authorities have documented that cohesive silicone gel implants do not seep, run or shift. If the implant ruptures, it will maintain its shape and integrity.

There is a range of implants with respect to height, projection and base width, each having a variety of sizes.

Here’s what you need to consider when it comes to your breast implants:

The placement of silicone breast implants will affect how your breast implants look and feel, as well as the safety and risks of breast augmentation. Dr Goldman does not perform sub muscular breast augmentations, as this type of procedure involves more safety risks and increased re-operation rate.

Dr Goldman only places implants over the pectoral muscles, so you can have the safest procedure.

There have been many advances in the materials used for breast implants since breast implant surgery was first introduced. As discussed above, Dr Goldman uses high-quality Cohesive Silicone Gel breast implants by Motiva.

This medical grade material is licensed and considered safe by the Therapeutic Goods Administration and is used in Australia and worldwide.

During your consultation, Dr Goldman will discuss which size and shape implants will be best suited for you. The final decision will be based on your current measurements, expectations and lifestyle.

Dr Goldman uses techniques and materials to help you achieve the result you want. Your breast implant surgery will be performed so that the implant is placed to move and behave exactly as the breast does.

During the initial consultation with Dr Goldman, he will guide you through each step and provide you with extensive take-home reading material to assist you in the decision-making process.

Aftercare

From your initial consultation, right through to aftercare, Dr Goldman and his staff are committed to offering you the highest level of care and support.

All patients receive Dr Goldman’s number for queries or concerns after the surgery and are entitled to as many reviews as necessary.

After the procedure: You will be able to go home after the procedure and will need to ensure that you have someone to take you home after your surgery. Your breasts will likely feel uncomfortable for the first few days so a relaxing first 2 days post-surgery is advised.

1 week after operation: Breasts will still feel slightly uncomfortable and sore which can be rectified with pain medication prescribed by Dr Goldman.

Scarring will become visible and you will be advised to wear a surgical bra with adjustable straps.
We recommend taking a week off work, especially if your work involves upper body movement.
Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercises. Light exercises like walking and activities around the house are permitted.

2 weeks after operation: Two weeks after your surgery you’ll have your first review with Dr Goldman. He will assess the healing process, scarring and the overall results of the procedure and will discuss any concerns you may have.

6 weeks after operation: You will begin to see a visible reduction in scars from 4 weeks post operation onwards. There will be a formal review for you to discuss any concerns and for Dr Goldman to ensure that the healing process is well and truly underway.

12 weeks after operation: The 12-month review should indicate whether the patient is ready to resume physical activities as before. It is advised that the patient refrains from strenuous exercise unless specified by the Doctor.

There is a total of 5 formal reviews that will take place in the span of 12 months post-surgery. After the first year, the patient will have 1 formal review every year. The patient is entitled to as many reviews as required.

Surgery Risks

As with any operation, there are risks associated with Breast Augmentation surgery.

A well known and publicised problem is capsular contracture. When a breast implant is inserted, a scar capsule forms around it as part of the healing process. In 2% to 5% of cases, the capsule may sometimes tighten and compress the breast implant, causing the breast to feel firmer than normal. Capsular contracture can occur to varying degrees. If it is severe, it can cause discomfort or changes in the breast’s appearance. In such cases, more surgery may be needed to modify or remove the scar tissue, or perhaps remove or replace the breast implant. Dr Goldman has a number of methods to minimise capsular contracture and he will explain this to you during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Incisions made during the surgery can deter the patient from breastfeeding. Breast implant surgery can also damage the glands that help produce milk and the ducts that hold them. The surgery can also lead to a disconnect between the nipples and the glands. Please speak to your surgeon before the surgery if breastfeeding is in your future plans.

While the two terms are often used to describe the same thing, breast augmentation is the medical name of the procedure while breast implants are the products that are used in the augmentation process.

As detailed above, the cost of implants is broken down into the surgery fee, anaesthetist fee, hospital fee and the cost of the implants. The total cost will be discussed in your initial consultation. You can also find out whether you are eligible for any rebates through Medicare or your private health insurance.
