What is the timeline for surgery?

Timeline of Surgery

Undergoing any operation requires time for careful thought and consideration It’s good for both the surgeon and the patient to give themselves as much time as possible to absorb all the information, and to ensure they are making the right choice.

These are the steps that most people will undertake pre-surgery:

  1. Research – This is predominantly done online, but can also include talking to friends who have seen a particular surgeon. We know that the internet is full of unqualified opinions and misinformation, so please be careful while you are conducting your research.
  2. Contact – Once you have chosen a surgeon to proceed with, the next step is to make contact. You may even wish to utilise their LiveChat service and ask some questions about your procedure. You can also search for online videos and tutorials from your surgeon to see if they are the ‘right one’ for you.
  3. Consultation – The initial consultation is a one-on-one chat about your surgery. This will be where your surgeon will assess your medical history and advise you on ALL the possible treatment options. This is also an opportunity to ask as many questions as possible. You’ll receive an information pack containing all the essentials you need to make an informed decision. You will also receive an estimated cost and a breakdown of the cost. A physical assessment will be conducted as part of your initial consultation.
  4. Decision – This is a very important part of the process and can sometimes be stressful. Most surgeons will encourage you to take your time and seriously contemplate your options. Like any surgery, cosmetic surgery does carry potential risks. If you’ve taken the appropriate time and you’re 100% committed to going ahead with your procedure, a second consultation will be arranged.

Should you book an online consultation?

As you can see, the process from research through to booking your second consultation is a lengthy period – and with good reason. Surgeons, like Dr Robert Goldman, know the seriousness of surgery and why each patient must be prepared both physically and mentally.

If you decide to book an online consultation now, it will still be a few months before you would undergo any procedure (even without Federal Government restrictions in place). In fact, if you are under 18 years of age, every surgeon in Australia is required by law to offer a three-month cooling-off period to consider your proposed surgery.

No-one can say when the restrictions will be lifted. Whether it’s three months,  six months or a year, now is the perfect time to talk to your surgeon and consider your decision.
